Ekaterinburg EXPO - a key exhibition center in the Urals and a leader of the regional MICE industry - is eyeing to present more live shows and concerts for mass audience.
According to Mr. Igor Danilov, a Director General of the EXPO Center, speaking at the International Forum CREW CENTRAL ASIA 2018 in Astana, Kazakhstan - the Center plans to become an operator of new events including those of international level.
Annually, Ekaterinburg EXPO is organizing more than 100 events. Particularly, is has become a permanent host of the main Russian industrial exhibition INNOPROM, the Russian-Chinese EXPO, WorldSkills Hi-Tech professional Championship, International High-Rise Construction 100+ Forum and other upscale events. The EXPO Center will host the 2nd Global Manufacturing & Industrialization Summit GMIS-2019.
When it comes to hosting various business events, Ekaterinburg is at the second place after St. Petersburg in the National ranking prepared by the R&C Market Research Company monitoring the event industry in the regions of Russia. Active work of the Congress Bureau of Sverdlovsk Region had also contributed to achieving this position in the Ranking.
Last year Ekaterinburg EXPO has become a member of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and therefore is now eligible to apply for hosting the International events of the Association.
As mentioned in the research of the R&C Market Research Company, “Sverdlovsk Region pays attention to the development of the specialized infrastructure required for successful growth of the event industry” - this part is referred to the construction of a new Congress Center becoming a part of the EXPO Center. The Congress Center is being developed according to the highest international standards and will incorporate additional 10 000 sq. meters of indoor exhibition space as well as a modern transformable event hall for 5000 spectators to host various music, sports, theatrical and other events of any complexity.
As Mr. Igor Danilov puts it, “Ekaterinburg Expo is the largest Exhibition Center in Russia apart from Moscow and St. Petersburg. It has been developed to meet the growing demand of the local event industry for the modern infrastructure to carry out international business communications. At the same time, various interesting activities should be constantly taking place as well on the Center’s site in the timeframe between the dates of the larger events. To achieve it, we have decided to integrate ourselves into the creative industry and to develop our own projects”.
In 2017 Ekaterinburg EXPO has organized a Beer Fest as well as a New Year Holiday “Cosmic Christmas Tree” (“Kosmoyolka”) Show which attracted more than 100 000 visitors. Recently, the Center organized the Z-Rave Night - a youth music festival attended by 3 000 people. Currently, a famous international Cirque du Soleil is staging its performances known for its complicated technical equipment, in the hall of the EXPO. Besides, Ekaterinburg EXPO is actively developing the sports infrastructure such as a school for motorcycle drivers and the ice rink as well as hosting the live concerts of rock and pop stars.
The EXPO Center is intended to take its events to the international level. Currently, the event management team is elaborating the concept of the “Geographia” Exhibition where various countries could present their national expositions. According to Mr. Igor Danilov, the example of the INNOPROM Exhibition proved the concept of organizing the event jointly with a partner country to be very successful - because it helps to develop international business ties while enjoying interesting culture program on the event sidelines. As per the Mastercard Global Destination Cities lndex Ekaterinburg ranked in TOP-5 Russian cities visited by foreign tourists, thus there is a great potential for organizing new international events.
